Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, AZ --- The Arizona Sting announced today that the ceremonial ball drop at Friday night's game versus the San Jose Stealth will be performed by former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson.
Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all-time. In 1986, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at the age of 20. He held the title for the next four years and would regain it again in 1996 after a brief hiatus from professional fighting. His bout with Lennox Lewis in 2002 remains the highest grossing Pay-Per-View event ever. The 39- year old native of Brooklyn, New York retired in June of 2005 with a career record of 50-6. Currently a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mike is an avid sports fan and supporter of the Valley's professional teams.
The Sting will secure a playoff spot with a win over San Jose on Friday. They are currently ranked fourth in the NLL's West Divison with a record of 6-8.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Currently in their third season of existence, the Sting are the defending NLL West Division Champions. For more information, please call (480) 563-7825 or visit ArizonaSting.com.
