Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Kitchener Rangers centre Mike Richards is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 11 after scoring three goals and six assists for nine points in three games.
Richards, who won a silver medal with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships earlier this month, scored a goal and picked up two assists in a 5-1 win over the Barrie Colts on January 8. He scored a goal and two assists in a 7-4 win over the Peterborough Petes on January 9 and finished the week with a pair of assists in a 6-5 win over the Erie Otters on January 11.
The 18-year-old Kenora native bumped his season totals to 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points in 38 games. The Rangers team captain was a first round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft last June. This is the second time this year that he has been honoured as the OHL player of the week.
