Mike Garrow Named Rookie of the Year

BOISE, Idaho - The West Coast Hockey League today announced that Colorado Gold Kings defenseman Mike Garrow has been named the 2001-2002 WCHL Rookie of the Year. Garrow was named on all ballots turned in by WCHL head coaches, general managers, and members of the media, receiving 12 of 13 first place votes.

The All-WCHL Rookie defenseman has split time between Colorado and the AHL's Utah Grizzlies this season. He led rookie defensemen in scoring with 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points in 53 games. Garrow's 14 goals are second most by a WCHL defenseman this season and his +18 plus/minus rating led the Gold Kings

The native of Kenora, Ontario, joined the Gold Kings for his first full season of professional hockey. He attended the University of Alberta from 1998-2001 where he scored 20 goals and 65 assists in three seasons. Garrow also appeared in six professional games at the end of the 2000-01 season, four with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and two with the Dayton Bombers of the East Coast Hockey League.

Garrow is the second Colorado player to earn WCHL Rookie of the Year honors. Todd Robinson won the award following the 1999-2000 season.
