MICHAEL LANG, general manager of the Berlin Thunder throughout their seven-season history, is leaving the team, the NFL Europe League announced today.

Lang was named as general manager in 1998 and helped establish the franchise in time for its inaugural season in 1999. Under Lang, the team moved successfully from the Jahnstadion to a home in the newly-rebuilt Olympic Stadium, where they averaged a record 16,848 attendance during the 2005 season.

"After seven years, during which the team achieved success on the field and continually increased attendance, I have decided to look for a new challenge," said Lang, whose team won World Bowls in 2001, 2002 and 2004 and were runners-up last season. "I have yet to finalize my plans but I will remain part of the Berlin sports scene - that is for sure."

JIM CONNELLY, Managing Director of NFL Europe, said: "Michael has made a great contribution to the NFL Europe League. There is no doubt that, under Michael, the Thunder has become firmly established as part of the sports landscape in German's capital city. We hope he continues to achieve success in his future endeavors."

Lang joined the Thunder after four years with the German sports TV channel DSF, where he was involved in the broadcasting and marketing of American sports. He had previously worked for radio stations in the United States.

"I would like to thank all the players, staff and coaches who have been part of my time at the Thunder," said Lang. "And a special thank you goes to the Thunder fans who have helped the team to achieve its success over the past few years."

The new Berlin Thunder general manager will be announced at a later date.
