Joe Cealera named as General Manager of the Berlin Thunder

JOE CEALERA has been named as the new general manager of the Berlin Thunder, the NFL Europe League announced today. Cealera, who joined the team when it was launched in 1998, becomes the Thunder's second general manager following the departure of MICHAEL LANG after seven years in the position.

JIM CONNELLY, managing director of NFL Europe, said: "Joe Cealera has played an important part in the development of the Thunder franchise in the past few years and we are pleased to give him the opportunity to step up to the position of general manager. We are looking for him to capitalize on the continued on-field success of the team and to build upon the commercial progress the franchise has made in recent years."

Cealera, who served as sales and marketing director and deputy general manager, said: "I am very happy that the NFL Europe has put their trust in me. I have to thank Michael Lang for the great work he did in the past seven years and I sure we can build on that foundation. There is huge potential at the Thunder and I am sure that all parts of the organization will work together to achieve great success."

Cealera was well-known on the German football scene even before joining the Thunder. He was part of the defensive unit of the Munich Cowboys for eleven years, including their German championship season on 1993, before taking over as defensive coordinator.

Following his education to become a bachelor of trade and commerce he spent two years with Ferrero, where he had his first experience in the fields of sales and trade marketing. While he was studying marketing and communications in Munich he worked for the US sports department of Germanys sport TV station DSF.

After his university degree he was responsible for the planning, production and marketing of DSF's NFL and NFL Europe League programming.
