Miami Manatees News Release

Miami, Fla. – Manatees Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced the signing of goaltender Jean-Francois Laniel.

Laniel, 22, made his professional debut last season splitting time between the Amarillo Rattlers and the New Mexico Scorpions in the Central Hockey League.

Laniel played in 11 games with the New Mexico Scorpions, where he compiled a record 6-5-0 and a .874 save percentage, with a GAA of 3.41.

In 13 games with the Amarillo Rattlers, Laniel compiled a 3-5-1 record and a .899 save percentage, with a GAA of 4.13.

"Laniel certainly possesses a lot of talent, which earned him being picked high in the draft. He catches the puck well and covers a lot of net. He is a pretty young guy, but he is a hard worker, a definite upside for us." Boyer said.

Laniel, 6'02'' and 190 lbs, was drafted in the third round (80th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers.

From 1998 to 2001, Laniel played for three different teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 39 games over three seasons, Laniel had a 4.71 goals against average and a .860 save percentage, with a record of 11 wins and 20 losses.

The Miami Manatees play in the Miami Arena as part of the six-team WHA2. The Miami Manatees will face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.

Season Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit www.miamimanatees.com.
