Miami Manatees Defeat Lakeland Loggerheads 5-2

Miami, Fla. – Ryan Kiley scored twice in the third period and added one assist, as the Miami Manatees (2-0-0) defeated the Lakeland Loggerheads (0-3-0) Friday night at the Miami Arena. Manatees forwards Oak Hewer and Eric Perricone each tallied power play goals. With the win, Miami moves into a tie for first place with the Jacksonville Barracudas.

Kevin Swider started off the scoring for the Manatees with a goal at 2:01 of the first period. Lakeland answered back on the power play on a Rob Miller goal at 9:49. Ryan Kiley set up Eric Perricone for a power play goal. That goal enabled Perricone to extend his league lead in points by two.

The Loggerheads scored two goals in the first period to even up the score going into the second. Lakeland's Rob Miller converted the only Lakeland power play of the night, scoring at 9:49. Lakeland went one for seven on the power play. Chris Cerella tied the game at 17:45 in the first, when he was able to put the rebound from Sean Weaver into an empty net.

After a scoreless second period, the Manatees were able to score three unanswered goals in the third period. At 3:17, Oak Hewer scored on the Manatees eighth power-play of the night. Ryan Kiley added a Manatees even strength fourth goal at 13:40, and added an empty net goal at 19:44.

Making 42 saves in the losing effort was Loggerheads goaltender Tyler Murray, and making 29 saves for the Manatees was Sean Weaver.

Earlier in the day, Manatees right wing Eric Perricone was named the WHA2 player of the week. In the first game, Perricone had three goals and three assists and was tied for the lead in scoring in the WHA2 going into tonight's game.

The Miami Manatees will take on the Jacksonville Barracudas Saturday night. Both teams are undefeated in the season with two wins each. Jacksonville is coached by former NHL star Ron Duguay.
