Miami FC signs Venezuelan midfielder/forward Juan Pablo Galavis

February 27, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1) - Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Miami, February 27, 2008 - Miami FC announced today the signing of 26-year-old midfielder/forward Juan Pablo Galavis for the 2008 USL-1 season. Juan Pablo was invited to participate in the 2008 Miami FC final tryouts and greatly impressed Miami FC's coaching staff.

"Juan Pablo moves really well without the ball. He is a strong physical player with a great soccer IQ," said Luiz Muzzi, Miami FC's General Manager.

Juan Pablo was born in Ithaca, New York, but was raised in Venezuela. After moving back to the US, he attended Roberts Wesleyan College in his hometown from 1998-2001, and it was there that he was first exposed to the United Soccer Leagues. The Rochester Rhinos, a Miami FC USL-1rival, used to practice at the Rochester University.

He is also very familiar with Miami FC and believes that his style of play will contribute much to the team's success in this upcoming year.

"When I heard in 2006 that Miami FC signed 1994 Brazilian World Cup Champion Romário, I realized that Miami FC was doing things the right way to have a champion level team. Now that Zinho is the new head coach, I believe that he will be able to organize the team to win the USL-1 championship this year. Due to my experience in some clubs in Venezuela, I play a Latin style of soccer with fast touches and passes," analyzed JP.

Juan Pablo has had a lot of experience in the Venezuelan soccer league. In the 2004 season, he won 1st Division Venezuelan National League Championship with Caracas F.C. Before that, in 2003, JP played for the Second Division Champions Maritimo.

This upcoming season will be Juan Pablo's first time playing in the USL-1 league and he is very optimistic. Even though he will be many miles away from Venezuela, he has said that he feels at home with Miami FC. "I am new to the league, but my goal is to do everything possible for the team to win the championship. Miami has a big potential to be a soccer city with the number of Latinos living here. I will feel at home because I have many family members and friends in this great town."
