Miami, June 1, 2010 - Miami FC drops its first road game of the season, losing 4-2 to the Puerto Rico Islanders Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium on June 2.
Miami FC will continue its road trip when they travel to Montreal this Sunday to face off against the Montreal Impact this Sunday at 2pm. Miami will return home to play Crystal Palace Baltimore at 7.30 at Lockhart Stadium.
"As much as it hurts us, we've got to move on and prepare for Montreal. I believe in our player's ability and have faith they will strive to make things better," said Miami FC's Head Coach Victor Pastora.
Puerto Rico had a great chance early in the first half as Nick Addlery beat two defenders and the Miami FC goalkeeper, trying to finish the clearest chance of the game. J.P Rodrigues tracked back and was able to clear the ball off the line.
Moments later, the Miami midfield put together a good string of passes that left Abe Thompson with a clear one-on-one chance. Thompson put the chance on goal, but the ball sailed wide of the mark.
Paulo Jr. also had a clear opportunity towards the end of the first half. Miami's leading goal scorer made a great move around a Puerto Rico defender and blasted a violent shot towards the Islanders goal, but the ball sailed calmly into the hand of Gaudette.
Miami FC opened the second half with a brilliant goal from Christian Gomez after he gathered a bounce on the edge of the box and calmly finished a one-on-one opportunity, putting the Blues up 1-0 to start the second half.
Puerto Rico responded two minutes later with a great run by Shaka Bangura. Bangura tried to chip Patterson but the ball bounced off the post, landing in the middle of the box. Josh Hansen got a foot on the rebound and tied the game at 1-1.
Nick Addlery would add another goal just four minutes later when David Foley crossed an accurate ball towards the back post and a Puerto Rico forward got a head on it, leaving an open opportunity for Addlery tapped the ball into the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Foley made a good run on the right side of the box and tried to flick the ball past Cristiano Dias. While making his run, the ball inadvertently hit Dias in the hand and they awarded the Islanders a penalty kick. Foley deposited the ball in the right corner of the net beating Patterson for Puerto Rico's third goal of the match.
Chris Nurse added the fourth for the Islanders when he rifled a shot past Patterson.
The Blues made a late push towards the end of the match. In the 87th minute Brain Shriver flicked a cross inside the Puerto Rico box and scoring the Blues' second goal of the match.
