Miami - Miami FC Kendall Under-16 and Under-18 teams resume competition for the US Soccer Academy this weekend with consecutive matches against Mid-American Conference members Metro United, and Scott Gallagher. The matches are set to take place at Tropical Park Stadium, home of Miami FC pro team, at 4pm and 6 pm on Saturday, March 1st and at 1 pm and 3 pm on Sunday, March 2nd, respectively.
Miami FC Kendall U-16 is going to be looking to protect their stellar record of 5-0-1 against competitive Metro United U-16 (1-1-0) and Scott Gallagher U-16 (1-0-1) clubs.
Equally, Miami FC Kendall U-18 (1-1-4), who has faced tougher competition, will be looking to gain a better foothold in the Southeast Conference with wins against the Metro United U-18 (1-1-0) and Scott Gallagher U-18 (0-2-0).
The games mark the first time ever that teams from these clubs play in Miami. Scott Gallagher SC, which is widely recognized as one of the top clubs in the country, has a storied tradition that includes 11 national championships and has placed several alumni in the MLS and the senior Men's National Team.
Among them are Taylor Twellman, Chris Klein, Steve Ralston, Pat Noonan, Brad Davis and Brian McBride. Metro United, which is based in Southern Illinois, plays in what is considered one of the three most competitive states in the country.
Miami FC Kendall U-18's efforts are expected to be spearheaded by star players Franklin Blaise, Cristian Gonzalez and Pablo Punyed. The Miami FC Kendall trio was also selected this year to play for the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team, under coach Thomas Rongen, and traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to compete in the Copa Chivas Tournament.
Also, being the opening games after the winter break, Miami FC Kendall is expected to bring an extra spark to their game efforts. "We are looking forward to starting the year strong and competing very aggressively," said Director of Coaching for Miami FC Kendall Victor Pastora.
The first Miami FC / Miami FC Kendall U-18/U-16 double-header will kick off on Sunday, March 30 at 4PM at Tropical Park Stadium.
Miami FC will open its home season on Saturday, April 12th, also at Tropical Park Stadium against the Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are currently on sale by visiting www.miamifc.com or by calling 305-728-2612. Single game tickets are available by calling 1-866-57-MIAMI.
