MIAMI, February 25, 2010 - Miami FC moves one step closer to kick-starting a new era of professional soccer in South Florida by announcing today the promotion of Assistant Coach, Victor Pastora, to the position of Head Coach for the 2010 season. Pastora replaces Crizam Cézar de Oliveira Filho, best known as "Zinho".
Pastora, 34, has been an assistant coach since the formation of the club. He has had experience as an interim Head Coach with Miami FC, taking over in August 2007 for then-coach Chiquinho de Assis. He also served as the director of coaching for Kendall Soccer Coalition and has a United States Soccer Federation "A" Coaching License.
"We have the upmost confidence in Victor as a Head Coach," said Director of Soccer, Fernando Clavijo. "He has a proven track record - coaching some of the best youth clubs in the country and he understands what it takes to be a successful coach at the professional level. He knows how to coach talent, and we believe he will do a great job and take this team to the next level."
In his 11 years of coaching, Pastora has had much success. At the youth level he has led teams to three national championships while winning some of the country's most competitive youth tournaments, such as the Dallas Cup, Disney Showcase, Tampa Bay Sun Bowl and the Jefferson Cup.
Marcelo Neveleff joins Pastora as an Assistant Coach. Neveleff has experience as both a youth coach and in the professional ranks. He currently has a USSF "A" license, and has worked closely with United States Soccer Federation as both an Instructional Coach and as a scout. The Argentinean also has professional head coaching experience for both the Jacksonville Cyclones, and the Myrtle Beach Sea Dawgs. He is currently the director of soccer for Weston FC.
Joining Neveleff is returning goal keeper coach Ricardo Lopes and returning strength and conditioning coach Rodrigo Dias.
Pastora becomes the third head coach in team history and the youngest head coach Miami FC has ever had. He will make his debut on April 10, 2010 when Miami FC hosts the Rochester Rhinos to kick off the season.
"I am very thankful for the trust the directors at Traffic Sports and Miami FC have put in me," Pastora said. "Having the opportunity to lead the team is a responsibility I take with great enthusiasm and confidence."
