Mia and Brandi Together Again
April 22, 2003 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS)
magicJack News Release
Mia and Brandi have stepped onto the fields of RFK Stadium as foes ever since they faced off for the first time in the WUSA's Inaugural game on April 14, 2001. Mia's Freedom took on Brandi's CyberRays, and Washington recorded the first ever WUSA victory with a 1-0 win. They have faced each other at RFK two times since, again, as WUSA enemies.
BUT this Saturday â Mia and Brandi step on RFK's storied pitch as TEAMMATES, and you can be there to catch it! Mia, Brandi, as well as Freedom stars Siri Mullnix, and Abby Wambach are in the 24-player U.S. Women's National Team camp this week that will train for four days before facing Nigeria in a doubleheader with the Freedom at RFK Stadium, Saturday, April 26 at 12 noon ET. The match is the first time in the Freedom's history the team will play back-to-back with the U.S. Women!
Freedom full season ticket holders will receive access to both games with their season ticket! Gates open at 10:30 A.M. â one and one-half hours before the U.S. women kick-off against Nigeria. The Freedom Fighters club pre-game tent party will also open at 10:30 A.M.
Following the U.S. Women's match against African champion Nigeria in the opener at 12 noon ET (televised live on ESPN), the Freedom (3-0-0) will close out the day hosting the Atlanta Beat afterwards at 2:30 P.M. The Freedom match will be broadcast tape-delayed nationwide on the PAX network at 4 P.M. To find PAX in your area, go to www.paxson.com
The call-up of Hamm, Mullinix, and Wambach to the U.S. roster sets the stage for potential "double-duty" by the Freedom stars in the U.S. match at noon and the Freedom match directly after. Heinrichs will eventually choose a roster of 18 players from the 24-player pool to face perennial African champion Nigeria, which won the African Women's Championships late last year to earn a berth to the 2003 Women's World Cup.
