Mexico Romps El Salvador, 12-0

The Mexico national team had an easy time of it, Thursday night at the Expo Square Pavilion, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the Mexican team shutout El Salvador, 12-0 in the quarterfinals of the WMF (Arena Soccer) World Cup.

Mexico scored first on a goal by Omar Santillan just five minutes into the first quarter. Then with 22-seconds remaining in the quarter and yellow card (two-minute) penalty was given to Mexico's Damian Garcia.

El Salvador began the second quarter with a five-on-four man-advantage, but they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

With 12:25 El Salvador was issued a yellow card for too many men on the pitch, and just seven-seconds into the power play, Mexico scored on a goal by Bryon Alvarez, to take a 2-0 lead.

With just under seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, Mexico took a 3-0 lead on a goal by Miguel Vaca.

Six minutes into the third quarter, Bogar Mareno scored for Mexico to take a 4-0 lead.

With 7:42 left in the third, Damian Garcia netted his second goal of the night, 5-0.

El Salvador was slapped with a pair of costly penalties. The first one coming with 4:35 left in the quarter, as William Garcia drew a yellow card for a tripping infraction. Then, just ten seconds later Marlon Duran was shown a yellow for a slide tackle from behind, and El Salvador was forced to play two-men short. The Mexican team quickly took advantage of the situation with a power play goal by Kevin Dominguez, quickly followed by a second power play goal by Jair Aleman, giving Mexico a 7-0 lead. At that point, El Salvador switched goal keepers, replacing Raul Calderon with William Santos.

Early in the fourth quarter, El Salvador picked up yet another penalty for too many men on the pitch, and Mexico continued their scoring barrage. Miguel Vaca took a shot that went of the foot of an El Salvador player into the net, then Miguel Resendes made it 9-0 for Mexico, on a shot from the right side of the penalty area. Just two minutes later, Raymundo Reza gave Mexico a 10-0 lead.

With 3:50 left in the fourth quarter, El Salvador was called for their 8th foul of the half, and was given a yellow card. It took only 18 seconds for Mexico to take advantage of this power play, as Byron Alvarez got behind the goalkeeper to slip the ball into the net. Less than 30 seconds later, Edgar Vazquez scored to put Mexico up 12-0.

The U.S.A. national team will play Germany, in a quarterfinal match, Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Expo Square Pavilion. Tickets are priced between $7 - $25.
