California Cougars News Release

Stockton, CA - Jan. 21, 2008 - The California Cougars, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), proudly announce that Mexican World Cup legend Missael Espinoza will be honored as the Cougars' team captain before Sunday's match against the expansion Orlando Sharks. Kickoff from Stockton Arena is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on January 27. The game will be televised locally on SJTV.

Espinoza will start the game with the ceremonial first kick. He will be joined by former Chivas de Guadalajara goalkeeper Martin Zúñiga for autograph sessions at various times during the game. The match marks the third time the 42 year old Espinoza has been a part of a Cougars event. He played in the two highly successful Stars of Mexico exhibition matches at Stockton Arena last year.

Espinoza earned 41 international caps for Mexico in his career. He was a member of the Mexican national team's 1994 World Cup squad. He also played for Chivas de Guadalajara and the San Jose Clash of Major League Soccer.

The weekend starts with three events featuring Espinoza and Cougars head coach Bernie Lilavois.

Both Lilavois and Espinoza will play for the Premiere Arena Soccer League's Turlock Express in an exhibition match between the Express and the Turlock Indoor Soccer All-Stars at Turlock Indoor Soccer on Friday January 25 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the match are $5.00 and free to all fans under five years of age.

Espinoza and Lilavois will also hold a youth soccer clinic at Estadio Azteca in Sacramento on January 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Enrollment for the clinic is $35 per child, $250 for a team of 10 youth players and $300 for teams containing 11 to 13 youth players.

After the clinic, Espinoza and Lilavois are scheduled to play together for the Cougars' development team, the Stockton Pumas, in a Premiere Arena Soccer League (PASL) match against the Estadio Azteca All-Stars starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets to that event are $5.00 for adults; children under five are free to attend. Paid youth players who attend the clinic will receive free tickets to the PASL match between the All-Stars and Pumas. Details for the game are available at Estadio Azteca in Sacramento and by calling (916) 529-3179.
