Greeneville Astros News Release
Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros (27-27) held a 3-1 lead late in the game on Saturday night at Hunter Wright Stadium, but the host Kingsport Mets (30-26) rallied with a three-run ninth inning to edge the Astros for a 4-3 win.
In the first inning, the Mets' Luis Guillorme was hit by a pitch to get their leadoff man on base. Then, after advancing to third on a fielding error, Guillorme scored on a Eudor Garcia sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead that would last all the way through the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, the Astros' Antonio Nunez and
Edwin Medina each drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in two runs. Then Alex Melendez, who originally got on by being hit by a pitch, scored on a Yonathan Mejia ground out. All three runs came without the Astros getting a single hit in the inning, although they did draw five walks.
Holding a 3-1 lead, the Astros were three outs away from a big division win on the road. However, the Mets had a different plan.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Eudor Garcia, who was three-for-three on the night, drove in a score with a RBI double for the Mets. Then, Vincent Lupo followed with another RBI double to tie the game before Luis Ortega stole home with two outs to win it for the Mets.
Mets' reliever Craig Missigman, who came on to pitch in the ninth inning and allowed one walk and had one strikeout, picked up the win.
The Astros will return home to host the Mets at Pioneer Park on Sunday at 6:00pm before going back to Kingsport on Monday and Tuesday.
