The Mesa Miners opened their spring training season on Friday with a 14-11 loss to the Chico Outlaws at HoHoKam Park. The Miners' hit a combined 6 home runs, led by newly acquired first baseman Sean Bischofberger. Bischofberger, who was traded from the Surprise Fightin' Falcons late Thursday night, went 3 for 4 with three home runs and 5 RBI in his Miner's debut.
Third baseman Michael Done hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. Outfielder Marcus Knight added to the power attack with a solo shot in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 4-4 and outfielder Chris Grant also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. In all, the Miners' collected 11 runs on 12 hits.
The Miners picked up their first ever team win by rallying to beat the Surprise Fightin' Falcons 9-8 yesterday. Catcher Cole Cicatelli's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth sealed the victory for the Miners.
The Miners 2005 spring training schedule includes two FREE games at HoHoKam Park that are open to the public for viewing: May 17 vs. Chico and May 22 vs. San Diego. Both games start at 6:30 p.m. MINERS ACQUIRE BISCHOFBERGER The Mesa Miners acquired first baseman/third baseman Sean Bischofberger from the Surprise Fightin' Falcons late last night to complete an earlier trade that sent third baseman Paul Powell to Surprise. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound righty from El Cajon, California played independent baseball for San Angelo and River City last season.
Bischofberger will start at first base for the Miners who played their first spring training game today against the Chico Outlaws at HoHoKam Park. In his Miner's debut, Bischofberger went 3 for 4 with three home runs and 5 RBI.

Opening Night is Thursday, May 26 at 6:35 vs the Yuma Scorpions at HoHoKam Park. This a special chance to see the first ever game of the Mesa Miners. Tickets are only $1!
GBL investor and Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak will be at HoHoKam Park to throw out the first pitch against the Yuma Scorpions on Friday, May 27 at 6:35. The first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive a limited edition Pat Sajak bobblehead.
Don't miss the game at HoHoKam Park vs the Yuma Scorpions on Saturday, May 28 at 6:05 when the Mesa sky will light up with a post-game fireworks show. The first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive a foam pick axe courtesy of ABC Plumbing & Rooter.
