Mesa Miners News Release

MESA, ARIZONA –The Mesa Miners professional baseball team will be holding their local tryouts on Saturday, April 16 at HoHoKam Park in Mesa at 9:00 a.m.

Tryouts are open to all ballplayers, although professional or collegiate experience is preferred. Over 100 participants from 10 different states including Arizona have already registered and are looking to make the MinersÂ’ 24-man roster before it is finalized on May 24. Miners manager Les Lancaster will be conducting the session and evaluating the talent along with hitting coach Rafael Melchione and pitching coach Mike Hartley. The public is welcome to view the tryouts free of charge.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to add some players to our roster and possibly some local talent,” said Lancaster, a former major league pitcher with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Detroit Tigers. “Looking at those who have already registered, there are a number of highly talented ballplayers who we feel could contribute to our team. This will be a great chance for these players to showcase their skills and be noticed by a professional baseball team.”

Any interested participants must pre-register by filling out a form and paying a $20 registration fee. Forms can be picked up at the MinersÂ’ front office in Mesa or by visiting www.goldenbaseball.com. Applicants must arrive at the park with their own equipment by 9:00 a.m. for an introductory meeting before taking the field.
