FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. â Scott Merritt led all scorers with 24 points and helped the Columbus Riverdragons roll over the Patriots and improve their record to a league-best 11-1. Columbus had four other players in double figures, including one the NBDL's top scorers Ricky Minard, who had 18 points.
The Patriots kept the game close through the first half, but the Riverdragons took a 45-43 lead into the break. Columbus came out strong in the third quarter and went ahead for good after a nine-point run early in the quarter. Merritt had 18 of his 24 points by the end of the third.
The Patriots cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, getting within eight points with 1:07 to go in the game, but time was against them and the Riverdragons sealed the win with 3-of-6 free throws at the end.
Omar Cook led the Patriots with 20 points and six assists. Ernest Brown had the games only double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Two other Patriots were in double figures. Tang Hamilton had 19 points and six rebounds. Mike King had 13 off the bench for Fayetteville.
Columbus's other players in double figures were Obinna Ekezie with 17 point, and Reed Rawlings and Adam Harrington, who both had 11.
The Patriots (2-12) travel to take on Columbus (11-1) on the road this Saturday, January 1 at the Columbus Civic Center. Game time is 6:00pm. For more information, log onto nbdl.com.
