Baltimore, MD (June 6, 2005) - In his first week as a professional lacrosse player Baltimore Bayhawks' number one draft pick, and third pick overall, Brodie Merrill proved he could play with the best of the best as he was chosen as the MLL's Rookie of the Week.

In Merrill's first appearance in the Bayhawks' uniform, the recent Georgetown graduate and defenseman showed fans why he was one of five finalists for the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy, given to the top varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. The rookie defenseman tallied two goals in the Bayhawks' 24 -8 win over the New Jersey Pride in the team's home opener. Merrill also added tallies to the stat book with five groundballs.

While attending Georgetown Merrill served as team captain in his senior year, earned First-team All-American status as both a junior and senior and was recently featured in Inside Lacrosse Magazine as one of the best long-poles in the nation.
