Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB----The Edmonton Rush are pleased to announce that captain Brodie Merrill has been named the National Lacrosse League's Transition Player of the Week for a second time this year.

Merrill earned the award as recognition for his outstanding transition game with 21 picked up loose balls (a record set for a Rush player in a game), with a four-point effort last Saturday night which finished the Rush regular season on a positive note with an 18-14 victory over the Toronto Rock.

The Rush captain also collected additional awards following Saturday's Fan Appreciation game at Rexall Place, Merrill was named Rush Transition Player of the Year. This honor goes to the player who has anchored the Rush at both ends of the floor, with steady defense and timely offensive contributions. This year the Rush received another standout effort from Merrill. He earned 47 points; he is currently leading the league in loose balls with 187, and is currently leading all NLL players with 30 forced turnovers.

Merrill was also named Rush's Most Valuable Player for the 2011 Season. He was once again the driving force behind the Rush, in the top three in team scoring, and a league-leader in numerous categories. He represented the Rush at the 2011 NLL All-Star Game, and will once again suit up for Team Canada at this summer's World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in the Czech Republic, May 21-28.
