
Merrell Named East Division Star of the Week

JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks and the North American Hockey League announced today that forward Chad Merrell was named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending September 23.
This is the second consecutive week a Tomahawks player has earned the distinction of East Division Star of the Week.
Merrell earned five points (five goals) during the four-day NAHL Showcase running from Sept. 19-22.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native score a goal in the Tomahawks' 7-3 loss to Corpus Christi on Thursday, Sept. 20.
He followed that with a pair of two-goal performances against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and the Springfield Jr. Blues.
"Chad had a great showcase for us," head coach Mike Letizia said. "He produced offense in every game including back-to-back two-goal games. He showed off his speed and scoring touch which included a short handed goal on Saturday. He has had a great start to the season so far and we look forward to him continuing to contribute our team even more as the season goes on."
Johnstown takes on the New Jersey Titans at Middletown Ice World Friday, Sept. 28 (7:45 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 29 (7 p.m.).
The Tomahawks home opener at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA is set for October 5 vs Jamestown. Former Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward will drop the ceremonial first puck. His appearance is presented by 1st Summit Bank, GapVax, Toyota and UPMC Health Plan.
