
Mentor Uses Kadolph's Hat-Trick to Double-Up Wolves

The Watertown Wolves fell to the Mentor Ice Breakers in a 6-3 loss at the Watertown Municipal arena Friday night.
Each team scored two goals in the first period. For Watertown both goals came Yianni Liarakos. His first was a short-handed goal vial Dallas Ingram and Kyle Powell during Jordan Bailey's holding penalty. His second goal was a power play goal assisted by Kyle Powell and Tyler Gjurich during Thomas Devesvre's elbowing penalty. Mentor's first goal of the game came on a power play for Justin Portillo's hooking penalty. Vaughn Clouston shot the puck into net-minder Jared Rutledge and it bounced over his skate to make the goal. The second goal for the Ice Breakers came at the 17:21 mark when Joe Swenson scored on a play from Tim Perks and Steven Fowler.
Mentor doubled-up on Watertown in the second with to goals courtesy of Matthew Kadolph. His first goal came just over ninety seconds into the period. His second came on a power play from Josh Newberg's tripping infraction.
It looked like the Wolves might have gotten their groove back when just fifty-five seconds into the third period Tim Santopaolo went top shelf with a laser from the point on a pass from Aleh Shypitsyn. The Ice Breakers had other plans with Tommy Mahoney scoring and Matthew Kadolph getting a hat-trick goal during the rest of the period.
Kadolph's hat-trick earned him the first star of the game. Mentor's Joe Swenson got the second star for his goal and assist. Watertown's Yianni Liarakos was given the third star for his two goals.
The Wolves will finish their three-game series with the Ice Breakers with games in Ohio on Saturday and Sunday. The defending Commissioner's Cup champions hit the road the following weekend to take on the Port Huron Prowlers. Watertown fans will be able to see the Wolves back in action at the Municipal Arena on Friday, March 15th to start a three-game series with the Elmira Enforcers at 7:30 pm.
