Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Batavia, NY - As a blackout loomed through much of the northeast, Victor Menocal and the Muckdogs were unaffected, as the pitching staff held Tri-City in check and led the Muckdogs to a 3-1 victory Thursday night.
Victor Menocal went five innings before leaving the game unexpectedly. Menocal was awesome, allowing only two hits and the one run that Tri-City would be able to Muster. Menocal struck out four ValleyCats batters and walked one. Caleb McConnell came on in the sixth and would throw three innings of no-hit ball, striking out two and walking one. Matt Padilla stepped into the closer role for the 'Dogs, working the ninth inning and giving up a double as his only blemish.
The Muckdogs bats were able to provide enough scoring to get the job done for manager Luis Melendez, scoring two runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
In the fifth, it would be first baseman Bryan Hansen who walked and catcher Jeury Diaz who reached on a single. Shortstop Esteban De Los Santos singled in Hansen and Michael Bourn grounded into a fielder's choice to score Diaz.
In the sixth inning, a triple by Tim Moss and a Jake Blalock double would provide the Muckdogs insurance.
Moss and Jack Headley both had two hits for Batavia, Diaz, De Los Santos, and J.D. Foust provided the rest of the offense.
The Muckdogs are home on Friday to host the Vermont Expos; game time is set for 7:05.
