Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers have been assigned FB/LB Elgin Andrews by the af2 league office. Andrews (6'0, 240) attended Jackson State University from 1999 to 2002.

As a senior with the Tigers, Andrews compiled 121 tackles (14 tackles for a loss), adding to his career total of 341. He had three interceptions, three sacks, forced two fumbles and recovered three.

Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto commented on the new assignment, "Elgin Andrews led the SWAC in tackles his junior and senior season. He moves extremely well for his size, having been clocked at 4.59 in the 40. That kind of speed at his position should make him a very effective player in the af2."

"Elgin was a very productive college player who fits our criteria for the fullback linebacker slot," stated Xplorers Director of Player Personnel Chris Bauer.

Andrews was a two-year captain for the Tigers, and earned All-SWAC First Team Honors during his senior season. He was recognized as a member of the Black College All-American First Team, as well as the 1AA All-American First Team.

The Memphis Xplorers were ten game winners in their 2004 playoff season. For group and season ticket information call 662-393-3761. Memphis Xplorers Arena Football! Xciting! Xhilirating! Xtreme! Football!
