MEMORABLE YEAR: The Ken McRae era with the Indianapolis Ice turned out to be a successful first-year venture as the Ice finished with a regular season record of 39-16-9 (87 points) and the Northern Conference Title. The 40-point improvement from a year ago earned McRae CHL Coach of the Year Honors and put the Ice back in the CHL playoffs for the third time in four years. Indy went 3-5 in the playoffs which included an opening round ouster of Amarillo and a Northern Conference Finals playoff series loss to Memphis.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Ken McRae's 39 wins in 64 games equalled Rod Davidson's win total during the 1999-00 season for a 72-game season...Shawn Silver was second among CHL netminders in GAA (2.21) and tied for third in wins (29)....Kevin St. Jacques finished ninth in the CHL in points (78) and fourth in assists (56)...Jason Baird was tied for 15th in the CHL in points (70)...Bernie John was second in the CHL among defensemen in points (66) and assists (52) and tied for third in power play goals (7)...Etienne Morin was second among CHL rookies in goals (25)...Jared Dumba led the Ice in goals (32), power play goals (11) and multiple goal games (7)...St. Jacques led the Ice with nine games of three-or-more points, while Morin topped all players in plus/minus (+20)...Greg Olsen took penalty minute honors with 149.
STATISTICALLY TEAM-STYLE: The Ice finished the year fifth on the power play (56-313, 17.9%) and fifth on the penalty kill (247/278, 85.3%)...Indy was the league's second best road power play unit (28-150, 18.7%) and number one team on the penalty kill at home (125/135, 92.6%)...Indy tied for first in the CHL in shorthanded goals allowed (2)...The Ice was second in the CHL in goals allowed/game (2.70).
MILESTONE MAKERS: Kevin St. Jacques reached the 800-point barrier and 500-assist barrier for his pro career and also scored his 100th career playoff point...Bernie John reached the 500-point marker and 400-assist marker for his pro career and played in his 600th professional game...Randy Holmes passed the 450-point mark for his pro career and also passed the 450-game marker...Andrew Taylor went over 200 points for his pro career...Jamie Morris went over 7,000 regular season minutes and 1,000 playoff minutes for his Ice career and also passed the 50-win mark.
ICE CHL RECORD BREAKERS: Bernie John's five assists against Amarillo in game four of the first round playoff series tied an all-time CHL playoff record....Bernie John became the all-time leader in games played for the Ice this season (238)...Shawn Silver set the Ice single season record for GAA (2.21), wins (29) and shutouts (6)....Kevin St. Jacques tied the Ice single game point record with five points on 12/31/02 at Fort Worth...The team set the new franchise win streak with a nine-game unbeaten stretch from 1/24/03-2/8/03.
CHL ACCOLADES: Shawn Silver was a five-time CHL Goaltender of the Week and a two-time CHL Goaltender of the Month winner...Bernie John was the only non-forward to capture the CHL Player of the Week award this year...Silver and John were both selected as CHL All-Stars this season.
