
Meijer IHL Players Of The Month For October Named

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Port Huron right wing Mike Kinnie has been named the Meijer IHL Player of the Month, Muskegon defenseman Matt Krug has been named the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of October.
Kinnie wrapped up the month of October scoring six goals and had two assists in five games played. He scored the first hat trick of the season on the Icehawks opening night, notching in two power play tallies and one even strength. Kinnie registered points in four of the five games played, recording multi-point games in three of the four contests. He is tied for third among all IHL players in scoring with eight points (6g, 2a), but leads the league in goals (6), power play goals (5) and shots (32). The 27-year-old Shelby Township, Michigan native is currently riding a three-game point streak entering the fourth week of action. Â Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington forward Craig Macdonald, Dayton defenseman Greg Labenski, Flint center Pascal Rheaume, Fort Wayne left wing Matt Syroczynski, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Quad City right wing Patrick Levesque. Â Krug completed his first month as a professional scoring one goal and dishing out five assists in six games played. He notched in his first professional points on October 17th, scoring one goal and three assists in the 'Jacks 9-3 win over Bloomington during Muskegon's home opener. The rookie defenseman ended the month on a positive note, recording only pluses during all six of the games. Krug currently leads the IHL in plus/minus category with a plus-7. The 24-year-old Southfield, Michigan native also currently leads all rookies in scoring with six points (1g, 5a) and is tied for first among all IHL defensemen. Â Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington left wing Adam Tomkow, Dayton forward Jonathon Ornelas, Flint right wing John Mori, Fort Wayne defenseman Frankie DeAngelis, Port Huron left wing Mikael Bedard and Quad City right wing Brandon Marino. Â Sterling finished the month of October with a 3-0-0-0 record. He had a 2.00 goals against average and a .928 save percentage, only allowing six goals during his three starts. He made a total of 77 saves over the three games, playing a total of 180 minutes. Sterling only allowed two goals against in his last two games, helping bump his goals against average to 2.00 from 4.00 in his first game of the season. The 26-year-old Lake Orion, Michigan native is unbeaten in three straight starts, leading all IHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.00) and is second in save percentage (.928) and tied for second in wins (3). Â Other goaltenders nominated for the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Paulo Colaiacovo, Dayton's Ryan Mior, Flint's Jean-Francois Labbe, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Quad City's Sebastien Laplante.
