Strong Island Sound News Release

In the short history of the Strong Island Sound, there has only been one player that has suited up for all three of the franchise's seasons in the ABA. Raphael Edwards, 31, has been an integral part of the team and is a leader on and off the court.

When the team took the floor for the first time back on November 5, 2005, Edwards went 9 of 15 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free throw line in a two-point loss to the Northeast Pennsylvania Breakers. 'Raph' played in 17 games that season and averaged 18.4 PPG and 4.8 RPG. His best night came on January 17, 2006 at Harlem when he scored 43 points versus the Strong Dogs.

Fast forward to the 2006-07 season. he Sound were 8-6 when Edwards returned on December 22 and he immediately paid dividends in a 111-101 home victory over the Maryland Nighthawks. In only 21 minutes of action, he put up 11 points and pulled down 7 boards. In the Sound's two playoff games, Edwards had two double-doubles. The team went 12-7 the rest of the way, and for the season, Edwards averaged 14.8 PPG and 6.7 RPG.

During the offseason, Edwards made himself a familiar face in the Sound's promotions. During Costco's 'Shoot with the Pros' Events, Edwards joined Greg Cerillo, Jr. and helped make the event a huge success.

The 6'7", 230-pound forward is entering his 10th professional season. After graduating from East Carolina in 1998, Edwards has played in the ABA, USBL and NBDL and overseas in Finland, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina and France.
