McManus climbs to second all-time in career passing yards

Published on June 22, 2005 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

The 2005 CFL regular season kicked-off tonight in Montreal at Percival Molson stadium with a career milestone for one of the league's most notable quarterbacks. Hamilton Tiger-Cats pivot Danny McManus surpassed Ron Lancaster's 50,535 career passing yards during the second quarter of the game with a 33-yard completion to DJ Flick, moving him into second place all-time in the CFL record books. McManus trails only Toronto Argonauts' Damon Allen's career passing mark of 64,240 yards.

During the 2004 season, McManus moved ahead of Lancaster in career pass attempts (6,297) and passes completed (3,421), placing him second all-time in both categories behind Allen. The 40-year-old's 331 completions last season combined for 5,034 yards and 29 touchdowns, the most touchdowns thrown in a single season by a Hamilton Tiger-Cat.

Since entering the League in 1990 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, McManus has thrown for 247 touchdowns and 260 interceptions while completing 54.3% of his pass attempts. Over the course of his fifteen-year career, the CFL veteran has won Grey Cups with Winnipeg (1990), B.C. (1994) and Hamilton (1999).

Final game statistics for tonight's game will be available tomorrow on www.cfl.ca .
