McGinn And Roy Win TELUS Player Of The Week

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 4, 2010 - Gatineau Olympiques forward Tye McGinn and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles goaltender Olivier Roy today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 27, 2009 to January 3, 2010.

McGinn scored six goals, including two game-winners, and added seven assists in six games. Moreover, he recorded twenty-five shots on goal. The Olympiques' left-winger enjoyed a career-best six-point game last Thursday, registering a goal and five helpers in a 7-1 victory over the MAINEiacs. His five assists tied the franchise record for most assists in a single contest.

Michael Chaput (MAINEiacs), Nicolas Deschamps (Wildcats) and Félix Lefrançois (Océanic) were also considered.

Olivier Roy got the nod on defence after recording four wins, including two by shutout, in five starts. The Screaming Eagles' netminder posted a 1.00 goals-against-average and .961 save percentage during that span. Furthermore, Roy established the fifth-longest shutout streak in League history, closing the door during 155 minutes and 18 seconds. Cape Breton has won seven of its last ten games.

David Savard (Wildcats), Francis Meilleur (Screaming Eagles) and Maxime Renaud (Drakkar) were also considered.
