McFoy Named Week 14 National Guard Community MVP

June 8, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - Milwaukee Mustangs DB RYAN McFOY has been named National Guard Community MVP of the Week for his recent philanthropic efforts.

McFoy (6-2, 210, Arizona State) is in his first season in the AFL and his first with the Mustangs.

This past Saturday, McFoy and three of his teammates participated in the "Autism Speaks Walk" at Soldier Field in Chicago. All of the proceeds benefited Autism research.

"It was a good experience to learn more about Autism. It's something that a lot of people don't have much of an understanding about," McFoy said.

McFoy and his teammates took pictures and spoke with the children. The walk was even more special for McFoy, who has a younger sister, Desiree, with Autism.

"The walk was definitely special for me," McFoy said. "As a family, we have to help her out with a lot of things so Autism was always a part of my life but not something that I knew a lot about."

In addition to the "Autism Speaks Walk", McFoy also dedicates his time to Strong Links, a teen mentoring center that provides teens an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.

"These aren't necessarily troubled youths but children that just need guidance," McFoy said. "It's fun hanging out with the kids and being a role model for them because a lot of youths today don't have positive male role models in their life"

McFoy plays kickball with the teenagers and tries to give them advice whenever he can.

"I am passionate about being a part of these kids' lives," McFoy said. "I don't try to lecture them, I just try to be like a big brother, give them advice and guide them in the same way I was guided growing up."

The Milwaukee Mustangs (4-7) will host division rival Philadelphia Soul (9-3) tonight at 8:00 pm ET.

The National Guard Community MVP is awarded to one player each week in recognition of their commitment to community service. Following the 2012 season, players will be voted on by fans to become the National Guard Community MVP of the Year.
