Maywood Buzz Announce Open Tryouts

Maywood Buzz News Release


Maywood, CA - Burrel Lee III, General Manager of the American Basketball Association's Maywood Buzz Professional Basketball Team, today announced that the team will conduct open player tryouts in its search for local and non-local basketball talent. The camp will be held on Saturday & Sunday, July 12th & 13th, 2008 and then all players will be assigned teams and play in the 3rd Annual Maywood Buzz ABA Summer Pro League July 14th -20th, 2008, both at the Home of the Buzz, The Maywood Activity Center, located at 4801 East 58th Street, Maywood, CA 90270, (Interested parties are reminded NOT to call the facility for directions or info). Special accommodations rates ($58.00per night) are available at the Ramada Inn Hotel, located in The City of Commerce (and just minutes from gym). Lee stated, ''The registration for the camp will begin promptly at 10AM. The fee for participating in each camp is $150.00. Walk-up registration fee on the day of the tryout is $175.00 and cash only.''

"We had a really bad season on the court finishing 4-28, but we had some great moments as well and with 2007-2008 Buzz Captain Darwin 'DC' Carter (6'1 187 G Tennessee State) being named to the 2008 ABA All-Star Game, being named Buzz MVP and you add in there John 'Smitty' Smith (6'3 190 G U.C. Irvine) being named an alternate to the ABA All-Star Game and getting the Coaches Hustle Award possibly returning next season we would like to find a few players to put around them as we look to be a force during the 2008-2009 season" Lee added.

Participants are required to bring their own gym shoes, towels, refreshments/beverages. The tryout camp will last approximately six hours. Participants will be required to sign a waiver and complete a registration form before being permitted to participate. This tryout camp is for players looking to become professional basketball players and players trying out should come in shape ready to play as the season started tomorrow.

Players looking to tryout for the Maywood Buzz should be ready to be committed to basketball and earning a spot on the team for a total of 7 days.

More info on the Maywood Buzz ABA Summer Pro League will be announced in the coming weeks, but the Japan Gym-Rats will be returning again this coming season to compete again and also the Japan Stars.
