Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, Ga. - The Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today signed forward Brian Bowen to a contract, ahead of their home opening weekend tomorrow and Sunday at the Macon Centreplex. The 6'0", 220-pound Bowen led the SPHL in goals last season as a member of the Fayetteville Marksmen before the league ceased play as a result of COVID-19 protocols.
Bowen will be entering his third professional season with the Mayhem. He has 106 games of professional experience under his belt, with 92 of those coming in the SPHL over the past two seasons. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 2018, Bowen played 11 games in the ECHL with the Worcester Railers at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. He also played three games in the ECHL the following season with Norfolk and Adirondack. While he played 11 games with Pensacola in the SPHL, it is in Fayetteville where Bowen found the most success in the league. In a combined 81 games with the Marksmen over the past two seasons, Bowen scored 98 points off 47 goals and 51 assists. Last season, he became the league's first 30-goal scorer since Jake Hauswirth also performed the feat with Fayetteville in 2016-17.
The team is allowed to carry a roster of 23 players for their home opening weekend but can only dress 20 for each game. SPHL guidelines mandate the roster be reduced to 20 and 19 players dressed following this weekend's games for the remainder of the season. Macon will play a total of 42 games this season, with the final game on Saturday, May 1.
The Mayhem will ring in 2021 with a pair of home games on Saturday and Sunday against Birmingham and Knoxville, respectively. Macon will look to add to their opening night victory on Monday night, a 2-1 win on the road in Huntsville. Game time is 6:35 PM on Saturday and 4:05 PM on Sunday.
