NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - In the midst of an incredible junior season that has featured him being named a finalist for collegiate baseball's top annual award while helping his team reach the Super Regions for the first time ever, Kennesaw State catcher and Holyoke Blue Sox 2012 alum Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga.) has one more honor to add to his 2014 resume after being selected 11th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2014 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft on Thursday night.

Pentecost becomes the 20th player in the history of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) to be taken in the draft's first round; he joins 2013 selections Mark Appel (Newport '10 / 1st overall) and Eric Jagielo (North Shore '11 / 26th overall) as the third player in the last two seasons and the seventh since the 2010 Draft.

The 2012 Holyoke alum was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the seventh round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft; he opted to head to Kennesaw State, and that choice paid dividends.

Pentecost entered the 2014 NCAA Super Regionals with a Division I-high 35-game hitting streak after being named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of Year. His efforts helped KSU become the first Atlantic Sun Conference team to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals after upsetting Alabama in the Regionals over the weekend.

Also named a Finalist for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy, as well as the Johnny Bench Catcher of the Year Award, Pentecost played 37 games for the Blue Sox in 2012, batting .303 with seven doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI. He finished with a .424 SLG% and .800 OPS.
