Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks (16-11-4) and goaltender Mike Clemente shut out the Tulsa Oilers, 1-0, Monday night in front of a sellout crowd of 5,800 at Independence Events Center. Clemente stopped all 35 shots he faced in the Mavericks first shutout win of the season, and Ryan Jardine provided the only goal. Missouri has won two straight games to end 2012 and continues their five-game home stand with games on Friday and Saturday at Independence Events Center.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period. Missouri was forced to kill a double-minor penalty to Andrew Courtney and shots were 14-5 in favor of the Oilers.
Missouri broke a season high with 23 shots in the second period and Ryan Jardine unlocked the scoreless tie when the puck ricocheted off his foot and past Oilers' netminder Shane Madolora. Jardine was assisted by John-Scott Dickson and Podge Turnbull and the goal proved to be the only goal of the evening.
Clemente and the Mavericks withstood the Oilers efforts in the third period and hung on for the 1-0 shutout victory. The Mavericks' record improved to 10-3-2 for the month of December and the team is alone in fourth place in the CHL as 2013 begins.
