Mavericks Win Again

February 2, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

The Southeast Texas Mavericks continue to improve as the season moves along. The Mavs took on a scrappy team from Arlington, TX on Monday night at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX and ran past the Arlington Bulldogs in dominating fashion 145-95.

The Mavs played without starting swing forward Josh Pace, but Mike Crain took up the slack as he got SETX out to a fast start by nailing two early first quarter three pointers to move the Mavs out to an early double figures lead. From there the Mavericks hard nosed and tough man to man defense dictated play. The Mavericks held the Bulldogs to 19 first quarter points and led 32-19 after one period of play.

In the second period Jermaine Blackburn, Herman Favors, and Currye Todd got the Mavericks out and running. Southeast Texas newcomer DeSean White made his presence felt both as a scorer and as another dynamic big man in the paint for the Mavs. White, Jon Rogers, DeRon Rutledge, Alex Sanders, and Lamar Sanders dominated the paint and took over the game for SETX as the Mavericks built a 24 point lead and led at half-time 70-46.

In the 3rd quarter Arlington fought hard and refused to quit, but Southeast Texas' depth and size was just too much for the Bulldogs. Blackburn, Favors, Todd, and Anthony Lumpkin led a Mavs run that moved the Mavericks ahead by 40 points mid-way thru the period and at that point SETX cleared their bench.

In the final period the Mavs substitutes continued the solid play of the #1 team in the ABA Power Rankings. Todd continued his hot shooting as he hit for 7 three pointers for the game. Rookie point guard Kenny Dawkins also played his best game in a Mavericks uniform as he continued the Mavs assault on the Bulldogs. The Mavericks finished the night with solid team play and pulled away for a 145-95 victory.
