Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The #1 SETX Mavericks (19-1) had to come from behind on Saturday night at home to defeat the Louisiana United Pelicans (1-5) at the NJEC Arena in Winnie, TX.
The Mavs came out cold and fell behind the Pelicans by as many as 15 points in the 1st quarter. Joseph Rogers, Quinton Pratt, and Wayne Fuselier set the tone for the Pelicans. LA United led SETX 25-12 after one period of play.
The Mavericks came back with a 15-2 run that tied the game at 27 mid-way through the 2nd period. Brandon Davis, Odell Bradley, Josh Pace, and Alex Sanders led the charge for the Mavs. SETX went in at halftime leading 42-38 after a Davis tip-in at the buzzer to end the first half.
The second half belonged to the SETX Mavericks. A 20 to 4 run to open the 3rd quarter put the Mavericks in control of the game. Former ABA Rookie of the Year Currye Todd's long range shooting and the Mavericks defensive pressure was just too much for LA United. Desmond Cambridge and Myles Thrash led the Mavs defense.
The Pelicans never quit playing but the Mavericks defensive pressure and depth was just too much to handle as SETX won their 19th game of the season.
Todd led the Mavericks in scoring with 18 points. Pace followed up with 15 points. Bradley, Sanders, and Crain all chipped in 11 points each respectively. Davis pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked 3 shots for the Mavs. Pratt led the Pelicans in scoring with 16 points.
The Mavericks will be back home on Thursday night, February 10th. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
