Mavericks Win 10th Game Of Season

The #1 Ranked SETX Mavericks (10-1) defeated the Arlington Bulldogs 134-83 in their Mavericks Holiday Shoot-Out Classic on Tuesday night at Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center in Winnie, TX.

The Bulldogs came out tough against the Mavericks in the first quarter. The score was tied several times early and was tied 13-13 at the five minute mark of the opening period. A Mavericks' 14-2 run spearheaded by new Mavs point guard Hollis Giles allowed SETX to get some separation and gain control of the game. The Mavericks pulled ahead 33-17 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Mavericks bench led by Alex Sanders, Jon Rogers, Desmond Cambridge, and Currye Todd allowed the Mavs to gain complete control of the game as the Mavericks cruised to a 73-35 half-time lead.

The Bulldogs had no quit in them as they came out of the locker-room at half-time to score 31 third quarter points. Nathan Walker, Maurice Williams, and Antonio Odom kept Arlington fighting and trying to get back into the game. The Mavericks answered with 38 points of their own in the period.

With the game in hand heading into the final period of play the Mavericks controlled tempo and earned another victory at home at the NJEC.

The Mavericks had eight players score in double figures with a balanced scoring attack. Alex Sanders led the way with 23 points. Myles Thrash added 22 points while playing his best game of the season at the point guard position. Odell Bradley scored 16 points. Todd and Cambridge chipped 15 points each respectively. DeRon Rutledge followed up with 14 points and Josh Pace scored 10 points. First team All-ABA Center Jon Rogers had 11 points and 7 rebounds in his first game back with the Mavericks after finishing his season in Uruguay. Kevin Richard led the way for Arlington with 17 points. Antonio Odom followed up with a 14 point and 10 rebound performance.

The second night of the Holiday Shoot -Out Classic will be played on Thursday night at the NJEC in Winnie, TX. The Arlington Bulldogs will face the Texas Fuel in the 6 PM game and at 8:30 PM the Houston Red Storm will face the SETX Mavericks.

In the first game of the Classic on Tuesday night, the Texas Fuel (7-3) defeated the Houston Red Storm (0-4) 124-101. Lamar Wright scored 32 points and pulled down 17 rebounds and veteran center Johnny Tyson followed up with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Kenny Wilson and Mike Gayle followed up 17 and 15 points respectively.
