Mavericks Walk off in the 9th, Give Suns First Loss

June 12, 2017 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Pittsfield Suns News Release

The Pittsfield Suns (8-1) were finally slowed down today thanks to a walk off homer by Sean Sullivan, giving the Seacoast Mavericks (4-5) the win 2-1.

It was a true blue pitching dual between starters Drew Marino and Luke Dawson, who both went a combined 14 innings pitched, eleven hits, twelve strikeouts, and no runs. Neither would gather a decision.

The Mavericks would get on the board first, albeit late in the game. In the eighth, Jake Lebel would hit an RBI single to break the tie.

The Suns would respond in the ninth. Zack Smith hit a lead off solo jack to tie it back up at one a piece.

But Sean Sullivan would say "Anything you can do, I can do better," as he walked it off for Seacoast with a solo shot of his own, giving the Mavericks the walk off victory.

Gardner Nutter (1-0) got the win after blowing the save in the ninth. Steve Fluery (0-1) was given the loss after giving up the walk off homer.

The Elser Animal Control Pest Player of the Game went to Zack Smith, who went 2-4 with a double and the solo home run that tied things in the ninth inning.

The Pittsfield Suns travel to Wachusett tomorrow, June 12th, to face the Dirt Dawgs. Brandon Shileikis will toe the rubber for the Suns against Dirt Dawgs hurler Dan Southerland.
