Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

The #1 ranked SETX Mavericks (15-1) defeated the Shizuoka Gymrats 119-65 at their Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center on Thursday night.

The Mavericks came out blazing and took a 7-0 lead before a Shizuoka called a time-out. Josh Pace, Myles Thrash, and Odell Bradley set the tone for the game as the Mavericks stifling defense took the Gymrats out of whatever they wanted to do on almost every possession. Midway through the first period SETX led 21-7 and never looked back from there. After one period of play the SETX Mavs led 33-12.

In the second period Mavericks fans got a look at the two newest Mavericks in PJ Cousinard and Brandon Davis. They liked what they saw! Both Cousinard and Davis played well and fit in like a glove into the Mavericks System. Jon Rogers and Hollis Giles joined in and the Mavericks bench just continued to push forward. SETX led at half-time 61-33.

The Southeast Texas Mavericks never stopped the defensive pressure and never let up in the second half. They allowed Shizuoka to only score 32 second half points to cruse to another dominating performance.

Odell Bradley led the way in scoring for the Mavericks with 21 points. Thrash added 17 points. Davis scored 16 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots in his first game in a Mavericks uniform. Rogers is starting to round into the form that made him first team All-ABA last season with a 14 point, 8 rebound performance. Josh Pace nearly had a triple double with 10 points, 10 assist, and 8 rebounds. Cousinard followed up with 11 points respectively. Sylvester Simple led Shizuoka with 25 points and 18 rebounds. Joe Vdeoji followed up with 20 points.

The Mavericks will travel back to Gulfport, MS next Wednesday night where they lost their only game of the season just before the Christmas Break to the Gulf Coast Flash (4-2). The Flash and Mavericks will get together for their third match-up this season. The game will be at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, MS. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
