Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The Southeast Texas Mavericks led by 23 first half points from Jermaine Blackburn dominated the North Texas Fresh at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX.
The Mavericks were sharp throughout the game and put on a high flying performance. The Mavs went into half-time with a commanding 71-47 lead.
The Fresh battled throughout, but just could not match the high powered and deep Mavericks from Southeast Texas.
In the second half the Mavs cleared their bench at the half-way mark of the third quarter and played their back up players to finish the game.
Even with that, the Mavericks put up 47 points in the final quarter and cruised to a 154-116 victory.
MAVS SCORERS:
The Mavs were led by Jermaine Blackburn's 23 points (all in the first half of play). DeRon Rutledge followed up with 21 points. Newly signed Mavs point guard Kenny Dawkins had 17 points and dished out 5 assist. Keith Simpson and Currye Todd each scored 16 points and Simpson followed up with 10 rebounds. Mike Crain scored 15 point on 7 of 7 shooting on the night. Josh Pace rounded out the double figure scoring by chipping in 13 points respectively. The Fresh were led in scoring by Leshon Sheffield with 21 points and Josh Washington added 20 points.
MAVS SUPERLATIVES:
Mavericks starting point guard Herman Favors dished out a game high 9 assist.
The Mavericks shot 65 % from the field and 81 % from the free-throw line (both game season high marks).
The SETX Mavericks won their 23rd straight home game at the Ford Arena. The Mavs are an amazing 24-1 at Ford Arena over the last two seasons.
Mavericks head coach Steve Tucker was presented a beautiful glass trophy commemorating his 500th victory that was achieved in Nashville, TN last week with a 104-95 victory over the then #1 ranked Music City Stars. SETX Mavericks Owner Jerry Nelson also presented Coach T with a new 2010 Nissan Truck in the pre-game ceremony.

The #1 ranked SETX Mavericks will host the #2 ranked Music City Stars in a classic match-up of #1 vs #2 on Saturday night at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
