Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO (July 14, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks announced Tuesday afternoon that they have signed right wing Danick Paquette and rookie defenseman Dax Lauwers to standard player contracts for the 2015-16 ECHL season.
"Paquette and Lauwers both add size to our lineup, we are excited to sign a physical forward like Paquette, and look forward to developing a young defenseman like Lauwers into a great part of this team," said Richard Matvichuk, Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations for the Missouri Mavericks.
Danick Paquette joins the Missouri Mavericks having most recently spent two (2) seasons with the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL). The twenty-four year old Montreal, Quebec native was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets)-round three, sixty-fourth overall-in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Paquette is entering his seventh professional season this fall with a career of fifty-six (56) goals, sixty-four (64) assists, and 980 penalty minutes.
"I would like to thank the organization for this opportunity; the respect they have shown me and the discussion I had with Coach Matvichuk made me feel really good about signing with the Mavericks," said Paquette. "I have heard great things about the city and the team, and I cannot wait to put on a jersey and play hard for the fans."
Dax Lauwers joins the Missouri Mavericks from Anchorage, Alaska. The twenty-three year old rookie defenseman played a total of twelve (12) games with the Colorado Eagles during the tail-end of their 2014-15 season. Lauwers, 6'2", 210lb, spent three years at Northeastern University (H-East), racking up 103 penalty minutes through 106 games.
"I am excited about the opportunity to become a part of the Mavericks organization this fall," said Lauwers. "After speaking with the coaching staff, I knew Missouri would be a perfect team for me to join. I am excited to meet the rest of the players, staff and fans in the coming months and look forward to a great season!"
