Mavericks Late Tip-In Wins Game
February 25, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The #1 ranked SETX Mavericks (24-1) defeated one of the top travel teams in the State of Texas Thursday night on a tip-in by veteran power forward Alex Sanders with 4.2 seconds to play at the NJEC Arena.
With 13.8 seconds remaining center Marcellous Wright converted to tie the score at 108. SETX chose not to call a timeout. Instead Mavericks coach Steve Tucker instructed point guard Myles Thrash to attack the basket. Thrash did just that and put up a short jump shot in the lane area. Sanders came in to tip the ball in as it was coming off the front of the rim. Dallas had no timeouts, so they were forced to inbound the ball and go full-court to score. Donald Harris' last second desperation shot went wide left and the Mavericks had their 32nd straight home victory.
"This was by far the most talented team that we have played here in three years! They played us tough and it was a very beneficial game that will help prepare us for big games coming up later this season" stated Coach Tucker.
DeSean White led SETX with 19 points. Thrash scored 18 points. Brandon Davis and Odell Bradley each put in 13 points each. Desmond Cambridge chipped in 12 points. Alex Sanders followed up with 10 points. Former Maverick Donald Harris scored a game high 29 points. Andre Johnson put in 22 points. Tommy Moffit and Danny Calton chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Mavericks will be back in action Saturday night in Oklahoma City, OK vs the Oklahoma Stallions. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM.
