Mavericks-Lamar University Pipeline Continues
October 20, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
Two seasons ago Currye Todd and Lamar Sanders earned spots on the SETX Mavericks Roster and were a big part of the Mavericks Inaugural Season. Todd was named 2009 ABA Rookie of the Year!
Both Todd and Sanders returned the SETX Mavericks last season. At mid-season point guard Kenny Dawkins joined the Mavericks and earned SW Division Rookie of the Year honors. The trio helped the Mavericks win Back to Back Southwest Division Championships and in late March cut down the nets as the 2010-ABA National Champions.
This season the trio returns for another Mavericks Training Camp with high hopes of having a chance to win Back to Back ABA National Championships.
Also this season Todd, Dawkins, and Sanders will be joined by two more former Lamar Cardinals as Brandon Chappell and Justin Nabors will be a part of the Mavs Training Camp.
Chappell was an outstanding performer for the Cardinals three seasons ago and has since played professionally abroad. Nabors starred on last season's Cardinals Basketball team. Nabors showed grit returning from a devastating leg injury, but showed flashes last season of fully recovering from the injury.
The Mavericks Players will report for Training Camp on Monday, October 25th. Players will have Physicals and attend Meetings on Tuesday, October 26th. Actually Training Camp Practices will begin on Wednesday, October 27th.
(Note: A full Mavericks Training Camp Schedule will be released at a later date)
The Mavericks tip-off play on Thursday, November 11th as they will host the Texas Hurricanes. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center (NJEC) is now OPEN and will be the new home of the Mavericks! The NJEC is located at 18291 Englin Road in Winnie, TX 77665 off Highway 73.
