
Mavericks Hold off Fuel

The Southeast Texas Mavericks traveled to San Antonio on Sunday and were challenged by a re-fueled Texas Fuel team that battled the #1 ranked SETX Mavericks in a thrilling game on Sunday afternoon at the Alamo Convocation Center.
The Mavs found themselves down by as many as five points in the first quarter, but behind Herman Favors, Jermaine Blackburn, and Josh Pace the Mavs finished the first quarter with a scoring spurt to lead by 6 points at the end of one period of play 26-20.
In the second quarter the Mavericks controlled the tempo with back up point guard Kenny Dawkins controlling things and the Mavs got their inside players involved with Jon Rogers, DeRon Rutledge, DeSean White, and Lamar Sanders controlling things in the paint! With Dawkins leading the way the Mavericks pulled clear of the Fuel by 9 points at the halftime break 58-49.
In the second half the Fuel made strong runs at SETX, but the Mavericks experience showed through as Rutledge, Pace, and Favors made big play after big play to stop Texas Fuel runs. The Mavericks led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter and went on to win by double figures on the road once again 113-103.
MAVS SCORERS:
Josh Pace led the Mavs in scoring with a stellar performance on the road with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Point Guards Herman Favors and Kenny Dawkins scored 17 and 16 points while running the show on court for the Mavs. DeRon Rutledge chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Jermaine Blackburn followed up with 13 points. DeSean White closed out the double figure scorers for the Mavericks with 10 points respectively.
MAVS SUPERLATIVES:
* The SETX Mavericks are 18-2 on the road the last two seasons in the ABA.
* The Mavericks are on another winning streak having won their 10th straight game on Sunday with their victory over the Texas Fuel.
* The Mavericks have won 40 of their last 42 games, which includes a 30 game regular season Winning Streak (the longest in ABA History).
* The Mavericks have a 32-2 homecourt record at Ford Arena, where the Mavs will play their last two home games this upcoming week. The Mavericks will play all of their Playoff Games at the Parker Multipurpose Center on the campus of Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

The Mavericks will host the New Mexico Rimrockers on Tuesday night, March 2nd at Ford Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
