
Mavericks/Fuel Meet in Classic Championship Game

The Southeast Texas Mavericks (2-0) and Texas Fuel (2-1) earned spots in the Mavericks Tip-Off Classic Championship Game on Sunday afternoon with convincing victories Friday night at the new Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center (NJEC) in Winnie, TX.
The Fuel battled a feisty team from Gainesville, FL, the Florida Mako's (0-1) to cruise to the Championship Game vs their arch rivals the Mavericks of Southeast Texas on Sunday afternoon.
Lamar Wright had a dominating game for the Fuel with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Kenny Wilson followed up with 22 points and hit 5 long range three pointers in the game. Keith Simpson recorded a double/double with 18 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Isiah Allen followed with 15 points for the Fuel. The Mako's were led by Ricky Jackson's game high 24 points and Eric Lorenzi's 22 points.
The Mavericks used a dominating first quarter to take total control of their game against the Gulf Coast Flash (0-1). The Mavs led 31-12 at the end of the first period of play.
Alex Sanders led six Mavericks in double figure scoring with 19 points. Myles Thrash and Mike Crain scored 12 points each. DeSean White, Odell Bradley, and Jermaine Blackburn followed up with 11 points each respectively. Freeman Taylor scored 17 points for the Flash and Dexter Cheairs followed up with 10 points.
The Mavericks and Fuel renew one of the longest running rivalries in the ABA on Sunday afternoon when they meet for the Tip-Off Classic Championship at 5:00 PM at the NJEC.
