
Mavericks Defeat Vandals 131-94

The #1 SETX Mavericks (17-1) defeated the #14 North Dallas Vandals (9-6) 131-94 in a hard fought game on Thursday night at the Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Center in Winnie, TX.
The Mavs came out slow and fell behind the hard charging Vandals 8-0 to open the game. But after a Mavericks time-out Brandon Davis scored off an offensive rebound and Myles Thrash hit two jumpers to pull the Mavericks back into the game, from there SETX starting rolling going on a 12-0 run to put them up by 10 at 24-14. The Mavs closed out the 1st period strongly and led 38-22 after one period of play.
The Mavericks controlled tempo in the fast paced contest in the 2nd period, but North Dallas got timely scoring from Ralph Johnson and Dwight Coleman to match the Mavericks point for point. At the half SETX led 70-50.
The Vandals opened the 3rd quarter on an 11-4 run to cut into the Mavericks lead. A quick time-out by the Mavs helped them to gain control of the game again and once again SETX won a closely played quarter 25-21 to put them up by 24 points heading into the final quarter of play.
The SETX bench and depth showed in the final period as the Mavs pulled ahead by thirty points mid-way the final quarter. The Mavericks controlled play to close out their 17th victory on the season thus far.
Reigning ABA MVP Josh Pace led ten SETX Mavericks in double figures with 20 points. DeSean White scored 15 points. Jon Rogers scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in another strong performance for the Mavs. Brandon Davis had another double/double with 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds. Desmond Cambridge had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mike Crain, Odell Bradley, and Hollis Giles each scored 11 points respectively. Ralph Johnson led the way for North Dallas with 27 points (20 in the first half) and long range shooter Dwight Coleman followed up with 25 points. Maurice Williams chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mavericks will be back in action at home on Saturday night as they host Gulf Coast Division rival the Gulf Coast Flash (5-3). The Flash is the only team to have defeated the Mavericks this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
