Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

The Southeast Texas Mavericks (3-0) defeated the Texas Fuel (2-2) in the 2nd Annual Tip-Off Classic to win Back to Back Classic Championships Sunday night at their NJEC Arena in Winnie, TX.

The Mavs used a furious paced first quarter to take total control of the game verses their arch rivals from San Antonio, TX.

Jermaine Blackburn and Josh Pace set the tone early with early baskets. But Odell Bradley's 11 straight points midway the first quarter put the Mavericks in total control of the game.

The SETX bench led by Bradley, Desmond Cambridge, Mike Crain, and Myles Thrash dominated the Fuel throughout the first period of play and the Mavs found themselves up 43-13 as the horn sounded to end the first period of play.

The Mavericks led 63-36 at halftime.

The second half was much the same as the Mavericks entire line-up got into the act as the Mavericks pushed their lead to over 40 points halfway through the 3rd period of play.

In the second half the Mavericks were never challenged and cruised to a dominating victory 128-83.

Bradley led the Mavericks in scoring off the bench with 23 points. Blackburn added 20 points on 9 for 9 shooting from the floor. DeSean White recorded a double/double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Crain and Lamar Sanders each contributed 12 points. Thrash and Alex Sanders each put in 10 points respectively. Keith Simpson led the Fuel in scoring with 21 points.

Bradley was selected as the MVP of the Tip-Off Classic. Blackburn and Alex Sanders were chosen on the All-Classic Team. Simpson from the Texas Fuel and Freeman Taylor from the Gulf Coast Flash rounded out the All-Classic Team.

The Mavericks will travel to Houston, TX next Saturday to face the Houston Red Storm. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
