
Mavericks Defeat Fuel 113-80

The #1 ranked SETX Mavericks (12-1) defeated the SW Division leading Texas Fuel (8-4) Sunday night in San Antonio, TX 113-80.
The Fuel came out blazing as they took at 9-2 lead to open the game and led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter. The Mavericks led by Josh Pace and Jon Rogers finished the first quarter on a 14-2 run to only be down 27-25 after one period of play.
In the second period the two division leading teams exchanged leads and battled in a physical and emotional game. No team led by more than a basket and the Fuel led at half-time 48-47.
After the half-time break the Mavericks came out with its pressure defense in full force and the Fuel wilted from the defensive heat. Desmond Cambridge led the way and set a Mavericks record with 9 steals in the game. SETX only allowed 13 third quarter points by the Fuel and scored 37 to blow the game open heading into the final period of play.
In the fourth quarter the Mavericks continued their full court pressure and just seemed to get stronger the longer the second half went on. Myles Thrash directed the show on court for the Mavericks as the Mavs extended its lead to thirty points.
SETX was led in scoring by Pace, Cambridge, and Rogers who each scored 21 points. Odell Bradley and Thrash scored 13 and 11 points respectively. The Fuel was led in scoring by Kenny Wilson, Keith Simpson, and Leonard Brown who each scored 15 points.
The Mavericks will be back on the road Wednesday night as they travel to Dallas, TX to take on the North Dallas Vandals (6-2). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
