
Mavericks Also Win Big With Post-Season Awards

The newly crowned ABA National Champions, the Southeast Texas Mavericks won big as the American Basketball Association (ABA) All-ABA Team & Awards was announced from the ABA League Office in Indianapolis, Indiana. ABA CEO, Joe Newman announced the All-ABA Team & Awards in a Press Release today.
The Southeast Texas Mavericks were chosen as the Franchise of the Year in the ABA. The Mavericks two weeks ago won its first National Championship! As well the Mavs won its second straight Southwest Division & Regional Championships, won a record 30 consecutive regular season games over two seasons, and was ranked #1 in the ABA Power Rankings for a record 14 consecutive weeks.
Mavericks' forward Josh Pace was named the League MVP. Pace averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds to lead the Mavericks to the ABA National Championship and "Back to Back" Southwest Division & Regional Championships. This is the first time in the ABA that one team has produced "Back to Back" Most Valuable Players. Last season, DeRon Rutledge won the MVP Award. Pace was also the MVP of the ABA Championship Finals.
Mavericks head coach Steve Tucker was named ABA National Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Tucker has led the Mavs to a 54-6 record in two seasons. Coach T was recently selected as the Coach of the Decade in the ABA and was selected for the 4th time as an ABA All-Star Coach. Coach Tucker is the winningest coach in the ABA since the league came back in 2001. He has compiled a 107-25 record in four seasons in the ABA.
SETX Mavericks co-owner and president Candace Griffin was named Co-Executive of the Year along with Lake Michigan's Chris Glisson. Griffin has been instrumental in the growth of the Mavericks over the past two seasons. Griffin is ownership partners with her father Jerry Nelson.
Mavericks assistant coach Kevin Keathley was chosen as Assistant Coach of the Year, which is a new award designed to highlight outstanding assistant coaches throughout the ABA. Jermaine Blackburn was a first team All-ABA selection. Mavs center Jon Rogers was chosen as a third team All-ABA player. Herman Favors was honorable mention All-ABA.
