Mavericks #1 for 24 Straight Weeks
January 17, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
When the ABA Power Rankings were released today from the League Office in Indianapolis, IN the SETX Mavericks stood atop of the National Power Ranking Poll for the 24th straight regular season week.
It was the 10th straight week for the 2010-11 season and that along with the last 14 weeks of the 2009-10 regular season brings the number of weeks as the #1 ranked team to now a record 24 straight weeks.
The Mavericks have as well been the only team to top the ABA Power Ranking Poll this season from the Pre-Season Ranking to now.
Mavericks head coach Steve Tucker well knows how difficult a feat this is! "This is not an easy thing to do and our players deserve all the credit! They have kept things in perspective and have just gone out each night with one thing in mind, and that is our team finding a way to win! I think it will be tough to ever duplicate what this team has done in regard to being ranked #1 for such a long period of time! There are a lot of good teams in the ABA this season and I think five or six with a legitimate chance to win this season's Championship. With that said, the Championship goes through SE Texas and you have to prove you can win on the road to be a Champion!"
Within this long streak atop the ABA Power Rankings the Mavericks have lost one game in the regular season (101-99) to the #20-Gulf Coast Flash in Gulfport, MS last month. SETX returns to Gulfport Wednesday night to again take on the Flash on their home court. It should be quite a match-up between two ranked teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Harrison Central High School.
